About Vinayaka Mission University
Vinayaka Missions had its inception in the year 1981 with the establishment of the Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal (TKVTSS) Medical Educational and Charitable Trust. Not far from then, in 1982, the Founder-Chairman, Dr. A Shanmugasundaram instituted the Vinayaka Mission‛s College of Pharmacy in Salem, the pioneer institution of Vinayaka Missions. In the year 2001 the “University” status was conferred on Vinayaka Missions by The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, with the recommendations of the UGC (Established Under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956) as an acknowledgement of its excellence, satisfaction of the highest level of academic standards and best infrastructural facilities provided to achieve preeminence in education and by virtue of this recognition Vinayaka Missions trascended to becoming Vinayaka Missions University (VMU) as the 48th University in India.

Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust (Vinayaka Missions) was founded in the year 1981 at Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. This is a Registered Trust, totally self-supporting, with the dedicated philanthropist and educationist Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram as the Founder Chairman.
Aims of The Trust
To supplement the government‛s effort in increasing and improving trained manpower in the medical, technical and management fields through education in these areas, as a part of human resource development.
Providing charitable services in the form of free medical and health services to the needy and under-privileged.
As a first step in the pursuit of these aims, a humble beginning was made by establishing “Vinayaka Mission‛s College of Pharmacy” at Salem in 1981. Since then a number of technical, medical, dental, homoeopathic, paramedical and teacher training institutions were established in different parts of India. Vinayaka Mission‛s was established through a professional approach with dedication and commitment in teaching, thus providing every student studying in the constituent institutions a rich and rewarding experience.
The Chairman‛s insatiable thirst for continuous modernization and diversification has taken Vinayaka Mission‛s to great heights of glory in both the conventional and progressive areas of medical and technical education. The welfare and prosperity of society depends on the quality of human resources and the progress made in the field of medical and technical education. Thus Vinayaka Missions University came into existence with the aim of spreading technical and medical education of the highest academic standard to all aspirants, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and nationality.
The conducive environment provided by the University helps every student to achieve excellence in their chosen field of specialization. Nearly 15,000 students are studying in the various constituent colleges, and every year approximately 2000 medical, dental, homoeopathy, paramedical, engineering and management professionals besides arts & science graduates graduate from the VMU campuses successfully. The dynamic environment created by the Trust helps every student to develop his/ her rational, critical and creative powers, thereby enabling the fullest possible intellectual and personal growth.
Close to 3000 staff members including renowned professors, readers, lecturers and technical and other experts serve our student community to achieve excellence in education and to make studying at the VMU institutions an extremely pleasurable and rewarding experience. The success of VMU lies in its highly qualified and experienced faculty who are competent and dedicated to provide excellent education. VMU takes pride in being the only one of its kind in India that has established three medical colleges, one dental college, and two engineering colleges apart from other paramedical and homoeopathy colleges.
